Tabgha and its surroundings

Pilgerhaus Guesthouse is located at the North-western shore of the Sea of Galilee. A path through orchards and olive trees leads you to the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fish. The Chapel of Primacy—the place in which Jesus transferred the spiritual guidance of the Christians to St. Peter—is within walking distance as well.

You can also walk to Capernaum, one of the most important places of the ministry of Jesus in Galilee. The place includes remains of an old synagogue and a Byzantine basilica from the 5th century AD which was built on top of a large house called “St. Peter’s Home”. Researchers suggest that this has been one of the first places of assembly of Capernaum’s Jewish Christians. Archaeologists discovered layers reaching back to the first century AD. The Mount of Beatitudes, situated 100 meters above the sea shore is also within walking distance from Pilgerhaus Guesthouse.

From Pilgerhaus Guesthouse you can reach many places in Galilee:

• Mount Tabor (The church on top of the mountain commemorates the Transfiguration of Christ)
• Cana (At the marriage of Cana, Jesus performed his first miracle)
• Tiberias (Most important city at the Sea of Galilee)

You can also reach several places in the Golan Heights:

• Bethsaida (Birth place of the apostles Peter, Andrew and Philip)
• Kursi (Excavations of a church commemorating the healing of a demon-possessed man)
• Banias/Caesarea Philippi (At the sources of River Jordan, Jesus spoke to Saint Peter thus laying the foundation of the Church and the papacy)
• Safed (Holy city of the Talmud)

Hiking at the Sea of Galilee

The beautiful hiking trails through Wadi Amud, Wadi Hamam and Mount Arbel can easily be reached from Pilgerhaus Guesthouse.
