Giving aid

In recent centuries, the people of the Holy Land have scarcely been able to live in peace. Their lives have always been disrupted by wars, terrorism and suppression. Even today, Israelis and Palestinians are far away from a fair and stable peace.

People on both sides are suffering from the conflict. The needy and marginalised people depend on our help. The Palestinians have been suffering from economic misery and poverty. The German Association of the Holy Land supports several social institutions to show these people a way out of their hopelessness. In these places they can experience Christian charity irrespective of their background.

Projects owned and managed by the German Association of the Holy Land:

  • Schmidt’s Girls College in Jerusalem
The school provides 500 Palestinian girls with a good education enabling them to shape their future.
  • “Beit Emmaus” Nursing Home in Qubeibe
This institution offers a home to old and handicapped women who have been ostracised by the society or whose families cannot take care of them.
  • Dormition Abbey
The Benedictines are especially involved in promoting the dialogue between the religions. The theological study programme provides German-speaking theology students with the opportunity to spend an academic year in the Holy Land.
  • Meeting Place Tabgha
The meeting place on the shore of the Sea of Galilee enables encounters between Israelis and Palestinians, between Christians, Muslims and Jews. The place is also frequently visited by groups of handicapped children and youth.

Institutions owned by other organisations

Beside these institutions, the German Association also supports several other local projects and initiatives. These are usually run by religious communities, parishes or other Christian organisations. Some of these institutions are supported on an individual case basis, others have cooperated with the German Association for years.
